Cliff Alexander, a consensus top-5 prospect in the class of 2014, will make his decision on which school he will attend next year this Friday, November 15th.
The 6-foot-8, 240 pound power forward from Curie High School in Chicago, Illinois, has received offers from DePaul, Illinois, Kansas, Memphis and Michigan State.
Alexander is ESPN’s 3rd ranked prospect and No.1 PF, Rivals 4th ranked prospect, 247 Sports 3rd ranked prospect and No. 1 PF, and Scout.com’s 5th ranked prospect.
Word on the street is that Michigan State is out, and that Alexander is only considering the other four schools mentioned. There are also additional rumors suggesting that he wants to remain in state and attend a school close to home.
That would make it, on paper at least since we have no clue what is actually going on in his head, a 50% chance that he is playing in the Big East a year from now. That would be a huge get for Oliver Purnell and the DePaul Blue Demons as they’ve been near the bottom of the conference since 2008.
There’s no guarantee that Alexander would help turn around this program that has struggled mightily in Big East play in recent years, but it would be a good start. At the very least, he would would bring optimism and help attract additional recruits to the program.
It’s exciting to see DePaul in the thick of things for such a sought after prospect, but it’s pointless to do anymore analyzing. We’ll find out this Friday if he plans to be a Blue Demon next year or not.
Alexander will announce his intention at 4 o’clock EST on Friday live on ESPNU.
