The Morning Dump is a daily post compiling a list of links and commentary of various Big East topics.
Countdown to the first games of the college basketball season: 25 days
- St. John’s settled for a lot of jump shots last year and the Rumble in the Garden blog discusses the findings that were brought to light via ESPN. The post, which includes quotes from the Johnnies head coach Steve Lavin, uses advanced metrics from other sources that shows just how much and which players took jump shots. St. John’s offense, to no surprise given the nature of this post, was rather inefficient last year – ranking 214th in the country per kenpom.com.
- The guys at friarbasketball.com conducted a podcast that includes an appearance from the legendary Dick Vitale. It’s an hour of goodness even if you aren’t a PC fan.
- Seton Hall’s Tom Maayan almost couldn’t play this year given his obligations to the Israeli military. He spent five months overseas, but is back with the team for the 2013-14 season. This has been well-documented story, but is worth your time if you have missed it in the past.
- The crew at CBSSports.com each picked their top-25 for the upcoming season. And then they also compiled a consensus top-25 ranking. Only two Big East teams make an appearance, but I’m confident more than those two will be in-and-out of the real polls throughout the season.
