The Morning Dump is a daily post compiling a list of links and commentary of various Big East topics.
Countdown to the first games of the college basketball season: 37 days
- Xavier lands 3-star recruit Sean O’Mara from Benet Academy in Illinois. He is 6-foot-9, 240 pounds and describes his game as more of a back to the basket type of player, but has the ability to face up. He noted Xavier’s usage of big men as a selling point.
- NBC Sports and their College Basketball Talk blog listed a handful of programs on the rise and another group on the decline. The Big East had a representative on each. Providence made the risers list while Butler is seen as being on the decline. The cases for both are fairly straight forward. Ed Cooley has been a recruiting machine these last couple of years, while Butler just lost one of the best coaches in the nation along with a bunch of their skill players.
- CBS Sports compiled a list of transfers eligible for this season that are looked at as being under the radar. Sterling Gibbs of Seton Hall and Tyler Harris of Providence are seen as fitting into that category. Both players should have fairly significant roles on their new teams right from the start.
- And here is a little bit of info on Providence’s latest recruit for 2014, Ben Bentil. He says he models his game after Kevin Garnett. Coach Cooley continues to do work on the recruiting trail.
