Top 50 Forward Jalen Lindsey Commits to Providence

I’ve gone on the record in saying that there is no more tenacious, relentless, and seemingly omnipresent recruiter in the Big East than Providence’s Ed Cooley. And don’t just take my word for it. Just ask the players  he has recruited and continues to recruit. That persistence paid off for the Friars last night. According to a report by Kevin McNamara of the Providence Journal, consensus top 50 forward Jalen Lindsey verbally committed to Cooley and Providence College.

In a tumultuous offseason which saw the defection of native son Ricky Ledo to the NBA, not to mention the changing of conferences, the Friars finally have some good news to celebrate. A Tennessee native and product of Huntington Prep, Lindsey had been recruited Florida, Louisville, Memphis, Ohio State, Tennessee and Vanderbilt, just to name a few. This 6’7” kid is incredibly explosive around the rim and has big-time hops. No Lindsey mixtape found online is complete without at least 2 or 3 of his dunks. His interior presence will be a very welcome addition for Providence.

It’s yet another top 50 recruit for Ed Cooley, a man who has brought radical change to a program that desperately needed it. No stat makes this more evident than what Jeff Borzello (@jeffbozello) of CBS Sports tweeted earlier today:

What’s staggering is how far the program has come from the *sigh* Keno Davis era in such a short amount of time. And Cooley’s not done yet. He’s hot on the trail of other high major 2014 athletes such as forward Abdul-Malik Abu, guards Jared Terrell & Kaleb Joseph, and center Pascal Chukwu. Plus, Cooley should have more slots to fill for an incoming freshman class than he’s ever had at Providence. As of now, the Friars still have four more empty slots for 2014.

If this keeps up, the Providence recruiting class of 2014 should be the best of the Ed Cooley era.
