Marquette Incoming Transfer Focus: Garrett Swanson

Position:  Small Forward

Size:  6-foot-7 200 pounds

Previous School:  Idaho St.

Freshman season:  3.6 points and 1.9 rebounds per game

How he will fit in:

Swanson opted to leave Idaho St. after the coach that he went to play for, Joe O’Brien, resigned in the middle of his first season.  He was forced to sit out last year at Marquette per the NCAA transfer rules and will be considered a walk on this upcoming season.  He will have three years of eligibility remaining.

Swanson likely won’t see much playing time given the Golden Eagles loaded and talented front court that consists of: Chris Otule, Davante Gardner, Jamil Wilson, Steve Taylor and Jameel McKay, but he will provide sound play when he gets an opportunity.

“What Marquette fans should expect from Swanson is a small forward who excels on the perimeter. From his play at the Milwaukee Pro-Am so far, he can shoot off the dribble and isn’t just a catch-and-shoot guy. While he may always be a walk-on, Swanson may not look like one when he gets on the court.” – ESPN

Swanson was looking for a change of scenery and made a great decision by turning to a solid program.  He may not find the court often this season, but he will have a good seat to view a team that could make some noise in March.
